Clean Lines Kitchen
“One Big Space”
This client returned from a much-needed vacation only to come home to a flood in their kitchen and dining room.
That was the impetus for a complete refresh of the family home. The original space was very closed off with small, enclosed rooms throughout the main floor of the house.
The homeowner’s wish was to have a wide-open space where she could cook and entertain large gatherings of her friends and family. She wanted the kitchen to be the ‘heart of the home.’
As a result, we designed a space that took down almost all of the walls in the main floor, so that upon entry into the home, you could see all the way through the living space, and kitchen, dining room area and take advantage of the breathtaking hill views from the home.
The client has a love for a modern aesthetic, so we incorporated the clean lines of the cabinetry and appliances with mid-century modern furnishings and accents, along with a few transitional elements, including the pendant lights over the island.
The design palette included a beautiful clear stained wide plan oak flooring, paired with a Viatera Muse polished countertop and backsplash. We also incorporated a two-toned look with the cabinetry by mixing a painted white cabinet next to the clear stained white oak shaker cabinets on the perimeter base in the kitchen. Shifting the look from just changing out the island with a different color cabinet, we were able to offer a fresh look at interchanging materials and colors.
Additionally, the oversized island, features counter seating for six, and a large counter/serving area for gatherings.
The kitchen also features a small desk for the homeowner and a custom feeding station for the homeowner’s beloved dog.
The client’s love for entertaining inspired the extended bar area to the right of the main sink, as we created a cabinetry tower to showcase the homeowner’s glassware and offer storage for favorite wines and other items.
The open flow from the kitchen to the living room and the dining room on the other side of the house, makes for a great new space with unlimited possibilities.
