Dramatic Black Accents

“Raising The Ceiling”

This client always dreamed of having a bigger kitchen, but didn’t have the ability to expand the footprint, as the kitchen was close to the edge of their property line. The way that we were able to make the kitchen feel so much bigger was to RAISE THE CEILING.
By adding two feet of height to an already low kitchen ceiling, we were able to dramatically increase the room’s volume and make it appear spatially much larger. We also increased the kitchen flow by removing an awkwardly located peninsula and having a more open plan.
The Before and After photos show the dramatic transformation that the extra two feet of height added to the space.
Additionally, we needed to keep the original travertine floors but wanted to give the space an updated look. So, we added drama and dimension by adding faux beams to the ceiling, and creating a bright white and black space with white cabinets and black accents like the custom matte black metal hood that we had made through Modern Aire Ventilation, and the matte black faucets from Cal Faucets, as well as matte black cabinetry pulls and handles.
The other major design element that transformed this space was the custom black framed windows that we added to the space. Originally, the dated kitchen had arched windows, which no longer worked in the space.
The new, custom windows with mullions added an additional architectural element to the room and are now a feature wall in the space.
Of course, the clean lines of the countertops and backsplash allow the homeowners and guests to focus on all the dramatic accents in the space and the upgraded appliance package including a Viking Range top and Viking French Door oven complete the overall package.
And the thoughtfully planned appliance garages throughout the new kitchen, including a roll-out coffee bar, and a large appliance station help to keep the clean aesthetic of the new space.
